Quick answer:
PIM licence pricing in 2026 runs from free capped plans to more than $300,000 per year. Published entry tiers start at $0, with small-catalog plans around $499 per month. Mid-market licences are commonly quoted between $25,000 and $60,000 per year, and enterprise platforms above $75,000. Implementation is billed separately and typically adds 50% to 200% of the first-year licence.
The licence is the easiest number to find and the least useful one for building a budget. It buys access to software, not a configured system holding your product data and connected to your ERP, your storefront, and every marketplace you sell on.
This guide covers what each major vendor publishes, what they hold back for a custom quote, how open-source totals compare once hosting and engineering are counted, and how to build a three-year figure that survives a budget review.
Three bands describe the market, and the band you belong to is set by catalog size and integration complexity rather than by company revenue.
Band | Typical catalog | Licence per year | Implementation, one-time | Who this fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Entry | Under 10,000 SKUs, 1-3 channels | $0-$8,400 | $0-$5,000 | Single-brand ecommerce, first PIM |
Mid-market | 10,000-100,000 SKUs, 3-8 channels | $25,000-$60,000 | $30,000-$150,000 | Retailers and distributors with ERP integration |
Enterprise | 100,000+ SKUs, multi-country | $75,000-$300,000+ | Quoted individually | Omnichannel retail, complex localisation |
Entry figures come from published vendor pricing. Mid-market and enterprise ranges are 2026 implementation-partner estimates, since Salsify and InRiver publish no pricing. Implementation benchmarks come from published Akeneo partner ranges for catalogs above 100,000 SKUs.
Two things the table cannot show matter more than the band itself. The first is what each licence excludes, because activation channels, AI usage, and premium support are billed separately by most vendors. The second is the time your own staff spends during rollout, which appears on no invoice and regularly exceeds the implementation fee on mid-market projects.
Cost line | When you pay | Who quotes it |
|---|---|---|
Licence or subscription | Annually or monthly, ongoing | Vendor |
Implementation and migration | One-time, at the start | Vendor or partner |
Integrations | One-time build, plus annual maintenance | Vendor or partner |
AI enrichment and metered usage | Monthly, by volume | Vendor, billed separately |
Internal team time | Continuously, from day one | Nobody |
The last line is the one that decides whether a project comes in on budget.
Enterprise vendors bill annually, and platforms serving smaller catalogs bill monthly. The amount matters less than what sits inside it, because two vendors quoting the same figure can be selling quite different things.
Cloud subscriptions normally bundle hosting, updates, and business-hours support. On-premise licences grant the right to run the software and stop there: Pimcore's on-premise editions list licensing, store access, and support, and exclude hosting and operations entirely.
Ask what each licence covers before comparing any two numbers.
Almost every PIM licence is calculated the same way: the vendor picks one unit, counts how much of it you use, and puts you in the matching tier. The unit is what differs, and it decides how your bill behaves as the business grows.
Unit counted | What pushes you into a higher tier | Examples |
|---|---|---|
Products or SKUs | Catalog growth | Plytix caps its published Pro plan at 50,000 SKUs, with larger catalogs moving to a custom quote |
User seats | Hiring, or opening access to another team | Being phased out across the category; Plytix and Pimcore both include unlimited users on paid plans |
Activation channels or outputs | Adding a marketplace, a locale, or a B2B portal | Akeneo includes one activation channel — one destination receiving product data — in every SaaS tier; Plytix sells brand portals and product feeds as separate add-ons |
SKUs, with seats and channels folded in | Catalog growth only | HootCore tiers by catalog size; adding users or sales channels does not move you to a higher tier. AI enrichment is metered per SKU on top of the licence |
Nothing - flat per edition | Only the edition itself, or instance count | Pimcore charges a fixed annual fee with no product, asset, or user limits, capped at four production instances |
Find the unit before you compare quotes. A retailer whose catalog doubles every two years should avoid SKU-based tiers; one planning to launch in three new countries should avoid channel-based ones.
Two questions decide most of it. Do archived and discontinued products still count against a SKU limit? And what does one additional channel cost once the included allocation runs out?
Implementation means building the product model, attribute structure, taxonomy, roles, and workflows around your catalog, then connecting the systems that feed it.
Published benchmarks put certified partner implementation for a mid-market Akeneo deployment above 100,000 SKUs at $30,000 to $150,000 across three to nine months, and independent 2026 analysis places implementation across the category at 50% to 200% of the first-year licence.
Migration is quoted alongside it. Moving records out of a legacy system is mechanical work and priced accordingly. Reconciling attributes entered inconsistently over several years is neither, and no vendor can scope it before seeing your data.
Projects overrun here more often than anywhere else, and the driver is seldom record volume. A quote covering the licence but not these two figures describes half your first year.
Pricing transparency in this category is uneven, and the split is not between expensive and cheap platforms. Vendors serving smaller catalogs publish full grids. Vendors serving enterprise retail publish nothing and treat the first conversation as a qualification step.
That makes direct comparison harder than it looks. A published entry price tells you where a platform starts, not what your deployment costs, and several vendors that publish a tier keep meaningful functionality in add-ons quoted separately.
Vendor | Starting price | Model | What's included | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Akeneo | $45,000/yr (G2 listing, not vendor-published) | Annual SaaS; free self-hosted CE | PIM with rules engine | 1 activation channel per tier; AI and connectors are add-ons |
Pimcore | $0 CE; $9,900/yr Professional | Flat annual fee per edition | PIM, MDM, DAM, DXP | No product or user limits; capped at 4 production instances; hosting excluded |
Plytix | €0 Standard; €499/mo Pro | Monthly, by catalog size | PIM, DAM, AI credits | Pro capped at 50,000 SKUs; portals and feeds are add-ons |
HootCore | Not published | Tiered by catalog size | PIM, OMS, CMS, DAM, Web Store, AI enrichment | Seats and channels included in tier; enrichment metered per SKU |
Salsify | Not published | Custom quote | PIM, DAM, retailer syndication | Estimated $75,000–$300,000+/yr |
inriver | Not published | Custom quote, 3 editions | PIM, digital shelf analytics | No free trial; estimated from $30,000/yr |
Sales Layer | Not published | Per seat | PIM, onboarding, training | Directories conflict: $100 vs $1,000/mo |
PIMinto | Free; from $300/mo | Monthly | PIM, DAM, onboarding, migration | 3 plans, $300–$600/mo range |
OneTimePIM | $900/mo | Single monthly plan | PIM, DAM, unlimited support | One plan only |
Two retailers with identical catalog sizes routinely receive quotes that differ by a factor of three. Catalog size sets the starting tier. The factors below decide how far past it your quote goes.
The first three items account for most of the variance in practice. A vendor who quotes an implementation figure without asking about them is quoting a placeholder.
The licence is genuinely free. The system is not.
Pimcore Community Edition and Akeneo Community Edition both carry no licence fee, and both require you to supply everything a commercial licence would otherwise cover: servers, deployment, upgrades, security patching, and developers who know the platform well enough to maintain it.
Akeneo has shifted its focus to SaaS. PIM v7, the version most self-hosted deployments run, reaches end of support on 30 September 2026 for PaaS and on-premise installations, and Akeneo's Flexibility PaaS offering has been phased out in favour of its Serenity SaaS platform. The Community Edition continues to receive releases, though partners now sell long-term support for it as a paid service, which tells you something about how much confidence the market has in relying on it unaided.
There is also an eligibility question that catches people late. Pimcore describes its Community Edition as suited to non-production use, academic and non-profit environments, and businesses below $5 million in annual revenue. Above that threshold, commercial licensing applies, and the free option was never the relevant one.
Building a budget for next year?
Tell us your catalog size, your sales channels, and the systems you need to connect, and we will work through the cost with you.
Entry plans run from €0 on capped free tiers to around €499 per month for catalogs up to 50,000 SKUs. Mid-market licences work out at roughly $2,000 to $5,000 per month. Enterprise platforms are quoted annually and commonly exceed $6,000 per month.
Add three years of licence and support to one-time implementation, migration, integrations, customisation, and training, then add three years of internal staff time spent on product data operations. That last term is the one most often omitted and frequently accounts for over 20% of the total.
Below roughly 2,000 SKUs on a single channel, spreadsheets and a storefront admin usually still work. The economics change once the same product data has to be maintained in more than two places, because duplicate maintenance grows faster than catalog size.
